Nikki Glaser hosted the Golden Globes, delivering a humorous mix of dark jokes about Ozempic and Hollywood scandals, filling the room with laughter. As the first woman to host solo, she embraced the spotlight with her cutting wit, poking fun at A-list stars like Zendaya and Glen Powell, while playfully tackling societal issues like voting.

Nikki Glaser came out swinging at the Golden Globes, being the first woman to host solo, and boy, did she grab the mic with both hands! Starting off strong, she dubbed the night “Ozempic’s biggest night”, fitting for an event where Hollywood glitz is outshined by some more, let’s say, medicinal side effects. With that, the 82nd award show in LA was off to a hilariously twisty start.

Glaser, known for her savage humour, tackled everything from voting to Hollywood scandals and even Timothée Chalamet’s questionable facial hair. She joked, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be your host tonight. A room full of producers in the Beverly Hilton and this time I have all my clothes on.” That’s definitely quite the party trick!

Bravely going where few would dare, she reassured her A-list audience: “I’m not here to roast you tonight, how could I? You all could do anything, except tell the country who to vote for – it’s ok, you’ll do it next time.” Good luck getting them to agree on what to order at dinner, let alone politics!

Then Glaser locked in on some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Addressing Zendaya directly, she enthused, “I woke up for all of your scenes in Dune Part Two.” Talk about dedication! Not to forget her cheeky remark about Diddy, “that movie was more sexually charged than Diddy’s credit card.” Sounds like the afterparty will be lacking a bit, but she put it well: “No baby oil this year, just lots of olive oil.”

She didn’t stop there, throwing some love at Tilda Swinton—”You were great as Timothée Chalamet this year; can we talk about those eyelashes?”—that got the crowd giggling. Then, turning to Glen Powell: “What a year you’ve had! Glen, you were in everything: Twisters, Hitman… my head when I’m having sex with my boyfriend.” The laughter erupted. Can you imagine trying to keep a straight face?

Glaser once mentioned that all the pre-show jitters made her feel “42 weeks pregnant,” which is an interesting image to conjure when you’re about to stand in front of a sea of celebrities. Yet, she was pumped to deliver those punchlines in the presence of the glitterati.

Her resumé is impressive, boasting nods at the Globes and other high-profile awards, with her latest special “Someday You’ll Die” even getting an Emmy nomination. Not too shabby!

With all this in mind, it’s clear she came loaded with wit, thanks in part to some sage advice from Ricky Gervais who advised her, “Don’t try to walk out there acting like you’re an A-lister.” Good call! After all, nobody wants to be the awkward one at a party, right?

Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globes debut was doused in her signature dark humour, covering topics from Hollywood antics to Ozempic. With cutting remarks and playful jabs at the stars, she proved that she was more than ready for the spotlight. Her mix of levity and satire engaged the audience and made for a memorable evening, without losing her charm or fearless nature. She clearly showed that the cake may be overrated, but the awards, well, they need more flair!
