Brad Pitt opens up about his divorce from Angelina Jolie nearly a decade after it began, discussing relief and evolving relationships in a new GQ interview. The legal process was finalized last December. Pitt also touched on his current romance with Ines de Ramon, dismissing the idea that their public appearances are anything but organic. Jolie’s lawyer noted her focus on healing for the family.

It’s been a wild ride since Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt wrapped up their nearly decade-long divorce saga, officially putting a legal stamp on it last December. Pitt recently opened up — well, sort of — in a cover story for GQ, where he touched on what it felt like when that whole legal battle finally ended.

During this chat, which also doubled as a promo for his upcoming F1 flick with Damson Idris and Lewis Hamilton, he was asked if relief washed over him when the divorce was sorted. His answer was as cool as ice tea: “No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”

The actor wasn’t keen to spend the whole interview on the past, though. He switched gears to his new romance with Ines de Ramon, hilariously brushing off speculation about their first public outing at an F1 race being part of some calculated plan. “No, dude, it’s not that calculated. If you’re living, oh my God, how exhausting would that be?” Quite the valid point, isn’t it?

Pitt’s romantic history is a bit of a blockbuster in itself. He’s been linked with several high-profile stars over the years, including Geena Davis and Gwyneth Paltrow, and had a much-publicised marriage with Jennifer Aniston from 2000 until 2005. Then came Jolie, who entered his life while he was filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith — talk about a love story unfolding on the big screen.

From the start, their relationship was anything but ordinary. While Jolie was a mum already, Pitt got in on the adoption scene, flying to Ethiopia to welcome their daughter Zahara in 2005, followed by the birth of their biological daughter Shiloh in 2006 and twins Knox and Vivienne in 2008. They also adopted a son, Pax, in 2007, because apparently, why not?

After a considerable seven-year run together, they finally got engaged in 2012 and later walked down the aisle in 2014 at their picturesque Château Miraval winery in France. But, as they say, every fairytale has its dark chapter, and in 2016, Jolie filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

In the aftermath, Jolie shared with WSJ. Magazine how her family had to “heal” after the split. The couple’s relationship wasn’t without its issues, including troubling claims of an alleged incident where Pitt reportedly acted violently during a private jet flight with their kids.

When the dust finally settled and their divorce was finalised in December 2024, Jolie’s lawyer James Simon said it all: “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long, ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

In conclusion, Brad Pitt’s recent remarks on his divorce with Angelina Jolie reveal a complex yet poignant chapter in both their lives. Despite the nearly decade-long journey of legal battles, Pitt expressed that it wasn’t exactly a moment of major relief. The former couple has certainly had an interesting and often tumultuous history, peppered with love, kids, and ultimately a desire for peace.
