Dermot Mulroney Files for Divorce From Prima Apollinaare After 14 Years

Dermot Mulroney has filed for divorce from Prima Apollinaare after 14 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. He seeks spousal support while requesting the court block Apollinaare from receiving financial support. The couple shares two daughters and has largely avoided the spotlight throughout their marriage. They both share a passion for music.
Dermot Mulroney is officially waving goodbye to his marriage, after 14 long years. The 61-year-old actor, known for classics like “My Best Friend’s Wedding”, made the leap into divorce on June 23. This delightful nugget of info surfaced thanks to Us Weekly, following court documents that TMZ got their hands on first. Mulroney, who shares two daughters—Mabel, 17, and Sally, 15—with wife Prima Apollinaare, cited the classic reason for parting ways: “irreconcilable differences.”
In legal speak, Mulroney is asking for spousal support from Apollinaare, who happens to be a musician hailing from Italy. However, he’s also keen on making sure she doesn’t benefit too much financially from their split. The court documents aren’t too specific on when these differences started, but Mulroney did confirm that he and Apollinaare tied the knot back in December 2010.
Interestingly enough, the couple has largely shunned the limelight, rarely seen on the red carpet together. But last year, Apollinaare made an appearance at the SXSW Festival in 2022 to support Mulroney’s work on the film “The Cow.” Quite a rare outing which definitely warmed many hearts, albeit it being a one-off.
While Mulroney has graced both the silver and small screens in titles like “The Wedding Date”, “Chicago Fire”, and “August: Osage County”, his wife Apollinaare crafts her own magic as a singer and songwriter. In a rare chat with Lost in the Mirror back in March 2023, Apollinaare expressed a love for her craft. “Favorite part is that I absolutely love singing and playing instruments,” she shared, though somewhat comically lamented the lack of time and funds to pursue her passion fully.
She added that her artistic approach is a bit different. “I just do my thing [and] mind my business writing my songs,” she noted, which is a nice way of saying she doesn’t need the drama—classic artist mentality! Throughout their relationship, Mulroney has often highlighted their shared love for music, which is kind of adorable. “I play the cello, which is definitely sexy — it’s a big piece of vibrating wood between your knees,” he told People in 2005, and who could disagree?
Let’s not forget he also has a son, Clyde, from an earlier marriage to Catherine Keener. During his time with Apollinaare, Mulroney expressed hopes that their daughters would dabble in music before stepping into the acting arena, which he thinks can be a bit unhealthy for kids. “I try to keep arts in front of them… we’ve all certainly seen that being a child actor is unhealthy so I wouldn’t do that,” he mused to The Hollywood News in 2016. Wise choice, Dermot!
Dermot Mulroney and Prima Apollinaare’s marriage is officially on the rocks after 14 years. With claims of “irreconcilable differences”, the actor is seeking spousal support while also hoping to block any financial support flowing her way. Their children, Mabel and Sally, might have to navigate these changes while their parents focus separately on their respective artistic journeys.
